Marvin and the Sword of Truth

In which Marvin reports live from his new "office space" at Sword of Truth Ministries somewhere deep in the heart of Alabama. He is trying to come up with a name for his new ex-gay ministry and is also pondering whether his should become an approved Exodus ministry.

I wish I could tell you more about Marvin and his adventures, but as of yet, he has not called me, so I have no way of contacting him. I will not be surprised to learn that he still sees me as off-limits. Even after I graduated from Love in Action, they strongly advised us to avoid all practicing homosexuals.

Iäm so happy that you are back online. I have missed you a bunch this fall.

Need some names? What about "Change the unchangeble" or maybe "Celebrating life of serving eternal truth" or something like "Say nay to be gay" :)

Hello!

Back to Marvin's first post....

I think the "drop the Jewish refernces/affectations" thing was pretty apalling...and represents an inherant prejudice and ignorance many fundamentalist Christians have about Judaism.

Many Christians don't realize that "Jewishness" is more than simply a "denomination". For Jews' it is both cultural....and their nationality.

A Jew can become a Christian....but he is still a Jew by culture and national background. He cannot stop being a Jew anymore than I could stop being Italian.

I was born an Irish-Catholic- Democrat.

I can change the first and the latter....but not the middle

Lastly, they fail to realize that Judaism is the basis for Christianity. The two are not so much at odds as they are complimentary.

Basically it seemed like someone was saying "Stop talking like yourself....and start talking like US!"

Strange....

I am surprised they have sent him into "ministry" so soon after leaving the program.

How does he know about the "comments" that were made here.

How did he know what "Willy Hewes" said? "Sword of Truth, Sort of Truth, etc.)

A "stainless steel motif"????

Is that a gay affectation that needs to be cast out?

;-)

I'm not sure how Marvin sees the comments. I imagine they have Internet at the church, although bet Marvin is pretty careful not to get caught up in any Internet badness.

Great names Alex, let's see what Marvin thinks.

doodle2, all good points. I remember once at Love in Action, I was challenged for being too European. Fortunately I had 24 hours to respond because I was speechless. (something rare for me).

anonymous, I think Marvin's most recent post after this one sheds some light on his rapid acension to ministry. It was not that uncommon in LIA for someone to get invovled with the program after graduation. Once I exited, I actually spent a month assisting in the offices of Exodus South America.

Marvin does sound happy, happier than I have heard him in some time.

Joe, are you trying your hand at being a prophet? Rachel and Marvin--interesting. Of course I need to find out more about her. All I know so far is that she is the only one who has internet access and that she shares an "office space" with Marvin. I need more dirt of her.
